Hassan Hamin Assad (Born Alvin Burke Jr. on October 28, 1973 in Opa-Locka, Miami, FL.) is an american professional wrestler currently working as Montel Vontavious Porter in World Wrestling Entertainment on it's "Smackdown!" brand. He is a former Tag Team Champion and United States Champion.

Before WWE: Assad entered professional wrestling in 2001 after serving 9½ years of an 18 year sentence in prison for robbery. During Prison, Prison guard Darryl Davis who also worked as a professional wrestler, approached Assad and offered to train him when he got released from prison. Assad accepted his offer and started training, during training, Davis has handed Assad over to another wrestler; Alex Gibson who worked as "Soulman" Alex G. he ironically knew MVP from when he used to be in the juvenile center he worked in. Assad's first match was against a friend of his; Omar Montiovaro, who worked as Primo Fernandez. Since then Assad has worked in independent companies such as Xtreme Wrestling Alliance, Future of Wrestling, NWA: Florida, IWA: Puerto Rico and most noticably Full Impact Pro where he worked as Antonio Banks. The highlight of his Full Impact Pro career came when he defeated Scoot Andrews in back-to-back nights to earn a shot at the then Full Impact Pro World Champion, Homicide. Banks lost the match after Homicide hit a Lariat for the pinfall. Banks has worked tryouts with NWA: TNA and World Wrestling Entertainment prior to his signing.

World Wrestling Entertainment: In 2005, Assad signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment, He said in the end, the man that got him into WWE was vice president of talent relations, John Laurinaitis, formerly known as Johnny Ace. "I was a pain in his butt for a long time," Assad says. Laurinaitis told Assad to come up with a concept and he'll get back to him. That's when the MVP character got developed, a cocky, self-obsessed athlete. The MVP character debuted on the 22/12/05 edition of Deep South Wrestling where he defeated Ray Gordy via submission. Shortly after, MVP developed a tag team with "The Puerto Rican Nightmare" Eric Perez. The two would go on facing the likes of Ebony & Ivory, High Impact, the Major Brothers and Antonio Mestre and Onyx. He stopped teaming with Perez later on and started working as a singles competitior. His last Deep South Wrestling match took place on the 02/11/06 edition when he defeated Kofi Kingston.

Friday Night SmackDown!: Montel Vontavious Porter made his first appearance on World Wrestling Entertainment Television on the August 4, 2006 edition of Friday Night Smackdown!. He claimed he was the most talented free agent in the game. Over the next few weeks, MVP was appearing backstage and in area crowds, often surrounded by women and a bodyguard, and talking to Smackdown! G.M Theodore Long, telling him to contact his (unseen) agent and come to the agreement of the signing of Montel Vontavious Porter. On September 27, 2006, Montel Vontavious Porter made his official contract signing in a WWE.com exclusive video.

He made his official WWE in-ring debut at the No Mercy, 2006 PPV defeating Marty Garner. Commentators Michael Cole and JBL described MVP as "Cocky, Arrogant and Pathetic." During the match, Fans chanted "Power Ranger" due to MVP's attire.

MVP was shown in the ring the next week on Smackdown, demanding more competition. He developed a fued with Kane, who just moved over to Smackdown after losing a "Loser Leaves Raw" match to Umaga. He defeated Kane in matches such as a Street Fight and a Cage Match. At the Armageddon 2006 PPV, MVP participated in the Infamous, "Inferno Match" against Kane. Whom he was unsuccessful in defeating.

When the Kane fued died down, MVP developed a fued with United States Champion, Chris Benoit. MVP has put champions from all around the world against him and defeated them in short order. At Wrestlemania 23, he could not defeat Chris Benoit for his United States Title. MVP has ordered a rematch at Backlash, where he has lost again to Chris Benoit. It was only until he defeated him at Judgment Day 2007 to become the United States Champion in a 2 out of 3 falls match which MVP won 2-0. Right after the Benoit fued, MVP started fueding with "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, he defeated Flair at the Night of Champions PPV in 2007.

His next fued was with Matt Hardy whom he defeated at the Great American Bash PPV to retain his United States Championship. The rivalry was based around Hardy wanting a re-match for the United States title but more-so who was better than who. They played a number of contest including Basketball, Chess, Pizza eating, push up's and throwing a football through a tire. When MVP announced that he was challenging Hardy to a Boxing match at Saturday Night's Main Event. MVP was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White-Syndrom which is a rare disease that causes the Heart to beat faster than usual, MVP announced it the following week on Smackdown and filled in a replacement for Hardy; Former four-time world champion Evander Holyfield. Holyfield ended up defeating Hardy at Saturday Night's Main Event only to knock out MVP with one punch after the match. The next week on Smackdown, MVP was backstage talking to then Smackdown GM Theodore Long, He said that he could win all the championships he wanted to and that he will win the Tag Team Championships with the next person who walks through the door, in which was Hardy himself. At Summerslam 2007, MVP announced a beer-drinking contest against Hardy, Hardy said that he has filled in a replacement due to MVP's replacement at Saturday Night's Main Event, Hardy picked Stone Cold Steve Austin who gave MVP a Stone Cold Stunner before the contest started. The next week on Smackdown, Hardy and MVP won the WWE Tag Team Champions off Deuce N' Domino after MVP threw Hardy out of the ring and scored the pinfall. They defended them successfully for a whole three months until they eventually lost them to John Morrison and the Miz after Hardy injured his leg. After the match, Porter attacked Hardy and (kayfabe) injured his leg and put him out of action for five months.

During Hardy's time off, MVP feuded with Rey Mysterio who called him a "punk" for injuring Hardy. Mysterio defeated MVP at Armageddon 2007 after MVP got counted out intentionally. On the January 04, 2008 edition of Smackdown!, MVP was shown talking to his agent and claimed he was going to end the career of Ric Flair, who's career was on the line in every match he participated in. Unfortunately, Flair beat Porter at the Royal Rumble 2008 pay-per-view via the Figure four leg lock. MVP participated in gimmick matches such as the Elimination Chamber and the Money in the Bank at Wrestlemania 24 in which Hardy returned and gave him a Twist of Fate off the ladder when Porter was seconds away from grabbing the briefcase. Hardy finally beat MVP at the Backlash 2008 pay-per-view to win the United States Championship.

Since then, MVP was involved in a storyline with Smackdown GM, Vickie Guerrero, the storyline involved MVP wanting to re-negotiate his Smackdown contract as he felt his talent wasn't utilized correctly. The storyline never finished and MVP went onto feud with the newly drafted Jeff Hardy. The Jeff/MVP rivalry was based around MVP calling Jeff reckless and how his irresponsable behavior caused the death of his dog and his house to burn down. MVP defeated Hardy at the Summerslam 2008 pay-per-view after Hardy was distracted by Shelton Benjamin. MVP then qualified for the WWE Championship Scramble at the Unforgiven pay-per-view in which Triple H retained.
